Meanwhile, the six-term Republican served 12 years as House Public Health Chairman and the last four years as House Appropriations D Chairman.
"I consider these years representing the great people of District 97 as the professional honor of my life, and I am extremely grateful for this rare opportunity, " Mims remarked in an official note.
"As I entered public service in 2004 at the age of 31, my wife and I had two daughters, and today, we have been blessed with not only those two daughters, but also a son, a son in law, and two grandsons, " Mims remarked Monday.
He thanked the individuals of District 97 for allowing him to represent them in the Mississippi Legislature for over two decades.
"There are too many people to publicly thank, but I could not have served six terms without my faith, as well as relying on God to grant me the wisdom and guidance that I needed everyday throughout the years, " Mims remarked. "I appreciate the confidence and backing that my constituents provided me. It is extremely humbling to ask someone for their vote and trust me to create the right decision on so numerous significant matters."
Mims went on to express his gratefulness to his wife and children "for their love and understanding of my challenging schedule as I always wanted them to be proud of my public service."
I could not have been in this position without the unwavering backing and love from my wife of thirty years, Mims stated. Amy and I look forward to beginning this next chapter in our lives, and we will always be grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Southwest Mississippi.
