District Collector T. Nishanthi directed the Horticulture Department, Agriculture Department, DRDA, Coffee Project, APCNF, and Coffee Board to coordinate measures to detect the pest early and minimise losses to coffee farmers.
Fifty teams, each comprising a Coffee Liaison Worker, an Internal Community Resource Person (ICRP), and a Village Organisation Assistant (VOA), will inspect plantations and record the presence, intensity, and affected area. Each team has been assigned 20 acres a day, with the survey scheduled over four days.
Authorities will identify areas with higher infestation for focused intervention. Based on the survey findings, Broca Traps, lures, and Beauveria bassiana will be created available in areas requiring treatment, the administration stated. Farmers and field staff have been sensitised on identifying affected berries.
Notably, a field inspection was additionally conducted at Doravalasa village under Chinalabudu panchayat. The survey data will be consolidated at the mandal and district levels and submitted to the Collector for further action, the administration remarked.
