K. Rajalakshmi, 43, was robbed off her six sovereigns of gold jewellery at her house on Market Road in Sholavandan on Sunday.
In her complaint, Rajalakshmi, a teacher in a private school, said two women wearing burqah barged into her house on the first floor of a building around 3 p.m. She did not notice them as she was asleep. The intruders overpowered her and gagged her mouth with a cloth. They also tied her legs before decamping with her six-sovereign gold chain. She was later was rescued.
The police stated they were analysing CCTV footage in the area, a busy location where a lot of people moved around.
A case of robbery has been registered and further investigation is under way.
