Sean Tindell began his campaign to be Mississippi's next Attorney General in August with roughly $507, 000 cash on hand, according to finance reports filed in January. Tindell believes he's "uniquely qualified" to be Mississippi's next Attorney General.
On Thursday, Tindell's campaign indicated that his campaign coffers topped $1.2 million thanks to the broad-based grassroots backing he has received from throughout Mississippi. Surpassing the million-dollar mark is projected to provide potential challengers pause.
As DPS Commissioner, Tindell managed to travel the state and visit with local law enforcement agencies, District Attorneys and Sheriffs. That network, coupled with his previous campaign experience as a former State Senator, has presumably allowed him to build relationships that are willing to invest in his Attorney General bid.
"I am deeply humbled by the overwhelming response we have received since launching this campaign, " Tindell remarked, adding that Mississippians are ready for "strong, proven leadership."
Incumbent Attorney General Lynn Fitch (R) is running for Governor, leaving an open seat election to succeed her.
As of now, no candidate – Republican or Democrat – other than Tindell has confirmed for Attorney General in the 2027 election cycle. State Senator Briggs Hopson (R) was reportedly considering a run but has since decided against a statewide campaign, even choosing to not seek re-election to the Legislature.
Tindell informed Magnolia Tribune in August he would step down as DPS Commissioner in the near future but did not say when that would be.
"I anticipate that I will step down at some point and focus my efforts on the campaign because, again, it's an important job and I think that over the course of a campaign I would not want that to detract from my duties as Commissioner and keeping Mississippi safe, " he remarked.
Tindell continued that he would produce that move "at the appropriate time."
"I think that it's important that the governor have an opportunity to pick a new commissioner that he's confident will fill the role, a role that's very important to our state, " he continued. Regarding the Author(s).
