UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed will visit India afterwards this month and discuss the world body's cooperation with New Delhi as well as the country's engagement in advancing sustainable development.

Ms. Mohammed, who will be in China this week and then head to Mongolia, will stop over in India on her way back to New York.

During her visit to India from August 26-28, she will meet with senior administration office-holders in New Delhi "to discuss UN-India cooperation and India's engagement in advancing sustainable development, " Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, noted at the daily press briefing in United Nations on Wednesday (August 19).

In India, Ms. Mohammed will additionally meet with students at the Indian Institute of Technology to "exchange on the opportunities and challenges to leverage digital innovation in support of the Sustainable Development Goals". On August 23, she will head to Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia, on behalf of the Secretary-General, to attend the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17).

During the visit, she will underscore the need to accelerate land restoration, strengthen resilience, and advance sustainable development in the face of the growing challenges posed by desertification, land degradation and drought, he remarked.
