The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO), Mysuru district committee, has expressed concern over the reported errors in the UGC-NET examinations.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has confirmed re-examinations for English, Commerce and Sociology after reported complaints from candidates concerning “errors” in the question papers for these subjects.

In an official note here on Monday, the AIDSO said the re-examinations were being ordered almost seven weeks after the original examinations, accusing “serious shortcomings in the management of national-level examinations”. It claimed that similar matters had been reported during the June 2024 UGC-NET examination as well.

“The noted errors in the question papers included factual inaccuracies, incorrect translations, typographical mistakes, wrong book titles and repetition of questions. These indicated serious lapses in the preparation and quality-checking of question papers,” the AIDSO alleged.

The organisation said merely conducting a re-examination would not compensate thousands of students, research scholars and aspirants for the stress, financial losses and wastage of time caused by the noted errors.

The AIDSO demanded that the authorities dismantle the NTA and order an independent inquiry into the alleged lapses in question paper-setting and quality control. It also demanded that those identified responsible be held accountable.

It urged the authorities to conduct the re-examination with utmost care and transparency to ensure that candidates do not face further difficulties.

“The AIDSO stands with all the affected candidates and calls upon the student community to come forward and fight for quality and accountability in the education system,” remarked district secretary Nithin.
