Awareness programmes

Several educational institutions held programmes to raise awareness against drug abuse lately. Of these, the Anti-Drugs Committee in association with the National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC), and Youth Red Cross (YRC) organised a rally on the Bharathidasan University Main Campus. V. Rajesh Kannan, Member of the VC Committee and Syndicate Member of Bharathidasan University, along with B. Jeyapragash, Controller of Examination (in-charge) and P. Vijayakumari, Inspector of Police, Navalpattu All Women Police Station, flagged off the rally. The rally aimed to create awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage healthy, drug-free lifestyles among youth, parents, and the general public. Over 1,000 persons, including students, teachers, non-teaching staff, research scholars, healthcare workers, social activists, and members of the public, actively took part in the rally. Pamphlets containing educational material and QR code for downloading the Anti-Drug App were distributed. Participants took a pledge against drug abuse, reaffirming their commitment to “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life”.

A bicycle rally was launched by the NSS unit of A.V.C. College in Mayiladuthurai and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to create awareness against drug abuse. SAI kabaddi and basketball coaches R. Priyadarshini and R. Priyanka, flagged off the rally.

The Anti-Drug Club and the PG and Research Department of Microbiology at J.J. College of Arts and Science, Pudukkottai, organised an intra-departmental poster making competition on drug abuse awareness and prevention.

Faculty development

S. Lourduraj, senior programme associate, The Catalysts, Bengaluru, highlighted innovative and learner-centred pedagogy techniques to enhance student calibre at a faculty development programme organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Cauvery College for Women recently. Mr. Lourduraj used theme-based games to demonstrate the principles of innovation in the classroom for over 150 teaching faculty.

Smart sensing workshop

Students of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College (SRC) were given orientation on developing sensors through Arduino open-source electronics platform at a training workshop co-hosted by the PG and Research Department of Physics and Tech Sei Lab, Tiruchi recently. Tech Sei Lab officials R. Gowtham and S. Madhavan introduced students to the fundamentals of Arduino programming and sensor-based applications. The students were also familiarised with Tinkercad, an online simulation platform, through which they learned to design, simulate, and test electronic circuits virtually before implementing them using physical components. Students worked in teams and developed a Smart DIY Radar system using Arduino, an ultrasonic sensor, and a servo motor, that was programmed to sweep through a specified angular range, detect obstacles using ultrasonic sensing, and determine their distance and direction.

Aviation conference

A conference organised by the departments of Business Administration (BBA) and BBA Aviation Management and the Jamal Innovation Incubation Centre of Jamal Mohamed College recently examined various aspects of the aviation sector lately. K. Krishnamurthy, aviation trainer from Star Air, Bengaluru, delivered the inaugural address. In the technical sessions, V. Muthuram, professor of Aerospace Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, spoke on international engineering developments in the sector. Captain Albert Tiong Kung Yung, aviation lead instructor, Asia Aeronautical Training Academy, Malaysia delivered an online presentation on opportunities and challenges in aviation management. L. Suresh Raj, director, Quality Control, Gojan School of Business and Technology, Chennai, spoke about career opportunities in aviation management.

Skill development courses

Courses on aari work, beautician course, jute bag making, and tailoring were launched at the Srimad Andavan Skill Matrix Academy (SASMA), managed by the Sri Ranganatha Paduka Vidyalaya Trust as part of an initiative to empower women with employable and income-generating skills lately. In his address, N. Vishnukumar, divisional manager, KarurVysya Bank, emphasised the significance of acquiring skills through practical courses and promoting self-employment among women. M.Pitchaimani, principal, Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College, spoke.
