Google has officially opened its Pakistan office in Islamabad, marking a major expansion of the technology giant’s presence in the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the office on Tuesday during a meeting with Google Vice President for Global Affairs Wilson L. White, with US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker also in attendance.
Shehbaz said Google’s arrival comes as Pakistan accelerates its digital transformation and could create significant opportunities for cooperation in technology, governance and the digital economy.
The prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s young population and said the country could apply its growing youth workforce to transform its economic prospects.
White said the opening of the local office was a major milestone for Google after more than a decade of investment and engagement in Pakistan.
According to White, Google estimates that its activities have contributed more than Rs. While supporting more than 960,000 jobs, 3.9 trillion in economic activity for Pakistani businesses and households over the past decade.
He said Google aims to support Pakistan’s IT export ambitions through investment in residents, hardware manufacturing and local businesses.

He said developing Pakistan’s digital workforce is essential to the country’s broader digital transformation and observed that Google has already helped train more than 1 million Pakistanis.
