Karur Member of Parliament S. Jothimani has mooted the establishment of a new railway station at Mandaiyur to provide rail connectivity to important educational institutions situated along the Tiruchi-Karaikudi National Highway.
In a recent representation to Satish Kumar, Chairman, Railway Board, Ms. According to Jothimani, mandaiyur was a major educational and employment hub with notable institutions such as the Indian Institute of Management-Tiruchi, Anna University-Tiruchi campus, Bharathidasan University, and several IT establishments located along the corridor.
“With around 5,000 students and a large number of faculty, employees, and other daily users, the area has substantial passenger potential and urgently requires direct railway connectivity,” Ms. Jothimani said.
Pressing for the development of the Vadamadurai railway station, Ms. Jothimani urged the Railway Board to construct pedestrian overbridge, improvement/extension of Platforms 1 and 2, construction of a third platform; and provision of essential passenger amenities at the station.
Ms. Jothimani also sought introduction of a Karur-Chennai-Karur Vande Bharat to provide faster daytime connectivity to cater to the requirements of the industrial, textile, business, educational, and healthcare sectors in Karur. Along with his, a day time express should be introduced to the State capital from Karur, she said.
Emphasising the importance of providing an east-west rail connectivity through her constituency, Ms. Jothimani suggested the introduction of a Coimbatore-Thoothukdi Link Train via Karur.
She sought a new local passenger service between Manapparai and Tiruchi and a morning Tiruchi-Dindigul-Madurai passenger train for the benefit of students, employees, traders, and daily commuters.
