The government of Karnataka has decided to direct crop insurance businesses to release claims by farmers in drought-hit areas. This was decided in a meeting of senior officers in Bengaluru on August 14.

In a separate order issued for Belagavi district, the administration has allowed companies to invoke the mid-season adversity clause and settle claims in 23 gram panchayats of Ramadurg and six gram panchayats of Yaragatti taluk for green gram and black gram crops. The district level monitoring committee, headed by the Deputy Commissioner, shall coordinate with the insurers, according to a government order.
