The Punjab Police has yet to fully implement the body camera and panic button projects despite a deadline set by the provincial government as part of its police reform plan.
The Punjab government had directed the police to complete the reforms by April 2026, including the provision of 14,000 body cameras to personnel and the installation of 700 panic buttons within two months.
Under the plan, police personnel were instructed to use body cameras during raids to improve transparency in policing. However, the distribution of the cameras has not yet been completed.
Panic buttons were also planned outside police stations to allow citizens to seek immediate assistance. Their installation, however, remains pending at a number of locations across Lahore and the rest of Punjab.
The delay means that both key components of the reform plan remain partially implemented despite the government’s deadline.
