Residents of a tribal settlement in Kadambur Hills have petitioned the district administration, seeking bus service to their village. They cited the difficulties faced by school and college students, pregnant women and elderly persons in commuting through a forest area.
In their petition submitted to the district administration here on Monday, residents of Nagalur, near Karalayam, said that around 145 families have been living in the settlement for the past 83 years. A Government Tribal Welfare Residential Middle School in the area has around 51 students.
The residents stated they had to walk about 1.2 km through a forest area to reach the main road. The stretch is frequently used by elephants, making the commute particularly challenging and unsafe, they said. In the absence of a bus service, residents, including children, students, pregnant women and senior citizens, were forced to walk the distance to access public transport and other essential services.
They urged the district administration to introduce bus services in the morning and evening to improve connectivity and ensure the safety of residents. They also sought a separate building for the anganwadi centre. It at present functions on the school premises.
