Litiksha, daughter of Prakash and Pon Sindhuja of Neelavittan post office street, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, will forever live in the hearts of plenty of in Keralam, for in her passing, she provided life and hope to a number of others.
Litiksha, who was undergoing treatment for brain tumour, had her first surgery three years ago. When she slipped into brain death on Thursday morning at 8 a.m, she was at SCTIMST, waiting for a second surgery. Even in their profound grief, her parents were willing to offer away their daughter's organs so that she will live through others.
In practice, the child's liver, two kidneys, heart valves and two corneas were retrieved for donation. While the second kidney went to a patient at Medical Trust hospital, Ernakulam, the liver and one of the kidneys were transplanted in two patients in KIMSHEALTH hospital.
As well as all necessary procedures were coordinated and managed by Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation, all processes, right from brain death confirmation and certification, identifying and coordinating the recipients, organ harvesting and allocation. Litiksha is survived by her sister, Sreesakthi.
Health Minister K. Muraleedharan paid his respects to Litiksha and conveyed his condolences as well as gratitude to the parents whose courage and supreme sacrifice in their hour of grief had given life to others.
