The Supreme Court has ordered authorities to transfer incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, former Prime Minister, and 1992 World Cup winning captain Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical treatment.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed directed that Imran Khan remain at the hospital until the next hearing on September 16.
The former prime minister is to be moved under tight security, with authorities instructed to ensure that law and order around the hospital is not affected.
The court also ordered the formation of a medical board to examine and treat Imran Khan. His sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, and personal physician Dr. Aasim Yusuf will be allowed to remain present during his medical assessment and treatment, with the family bearing the expenses.
The order came after petitions seeking better medical care and access to Khan’s family and doctors.
What happened
The Supreme Court also sought Imran Khan’s complete medical record instead of the two-page summary submitted by Adiala Jail authorities. The summary covered 39 medical check-ups conducted by specialists between November 2023 and August 2026.
The court further directed authorities to provide details of Imran Khan’s meetings with his family during the past three years and his communication with his sons.
