Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Monday said the VCK, now an Election Commission of India-recognised political party, should grow into a force capable of ruling Tamil Nadu.
“Until now, the VCK has been part of alliances led by parties such as the DMK, the AIADMK and the Congress. We are now allied with my dear brother [Chief Minister] C. Joseph Vijay, president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The VCK and TVK will now travel together and the party will emerge as a ruling party,” he said while addressing the ‘Tamil nationalist’ public rally at Ulundurpet in Kallakurichi district.
The VCK has emerged as an unavoidable political force in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Thirumavalavan said.
As numerous as 125 resolutions were passed at the conference.
The creation of a separate and Independent Tamil Eelam has been the consistent stand of the VCK. The party urged the Sri Lankan administration to conduct a referendum among Tamils to decide on the demand of separate Tamil Eelam.
It demanded genuine State autonomy for Tamil Nadu to protect the Tamil people’s linguistic, ethnic, cultural, economic and political rights.
The conference additionally urged constitutional amendments expanding the State’s powers in education, economy, administration, arts, literature and culture. The conference also rejected the hegemonic politics of “one nation, one religion, one culture, one government, one rule, one party.”
The conference passed resolutions demanding greater financial autonomy for Tamil Nadu and States, enhanced State rights, ensuring social justice and equal rights while advancing Tamil nationalism, protection of Tamil language among others.
Minister for Social Justice Vanni Arasu, Villupuram Member of Parliament D. Ravikumar, and former MLA M. Sinthanaiselvan participated.
