Virudhunagar district is in possession of 3, 826.7 tonnes of urea, 1, 927.4 tonnes of DAP and 269.2 tonnes of muriate of potash, remarked Virudhunagar Collector, N.O. Sukhaputra.

Addressing the monthly farmers' grievances redressal session here on Friday, the Collector stated that a total of 8, 711 tonnes of various fertilizers, including 2, 330 tonnes of mixed fertilizer and 357.4 tonnes of single super phosphate were in stock in the district.

Farmers could create apply of the fertilizers for the upcoming sowing season, he noted.

In practice, a farmer, Vairamuthu, created flutter at the session hall by rolling on the floor in protest against what he maintained inordinate delay in giving patta for his ancestral farm land.

He remarked that he had given at least 40 petitions of the various revenue office-holders in the last five years but no action had been taken so far.

He remarked that he would hand over the land to the Collector as he could no longer struggle to secure the patta.

Meanwhile, farmers complained regarding the Primary Agricultural Cooperative society at Alagapuri near Narikudi failing to return their 80 sovereigns of gold pledged with the bank.

Some 115 farmers had pledged their jewels in 2014. When they sought its return in 2016, it came to light that the office-holders had swindled the gold, nevertheless.

Over 50 farmers petitioned the Collector seeking to retrieve their valuables. The Collector informed them that efforts were on to settle their dues.
